In a statement shared online, Wahome urged Kenyans to first listen carefully to Kahiga’s clip before forming opinions or reacting to it. He called for calm and understanding, saying that many people including some politicians appeared to have reacted emotionally without fully understanding what Kahiga actually said.
Wahome specifically asked Kikuyu speakers to listen to the clip themselves, and non-Kikuyus to get a fluent Kikuyu speaker to translate the words directly, word for word, rather than relying on interpretations or secondhand explanations.
He emphasized that his goal was to provide clarity and closure on the issue, noting that even some leaders, such as Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, might not have grasped the exact wording of Kahiga’s statement.
According to Wahome, understanding the literal translation is crucial, as many of the heated reactions appear to be based on misinterpretation rather than the governor’s actual words.
His remarks have drawn widespread attention online, with many Kenyans praising him for calling for fairness and accuracy, while others maintained that Kahiga’s tone and message were still inappropriate regardless of the translation.
