The animal, which was presented as part of the burial contributions to the Odinga family, had the word “OJIENDA” written in large white paint across its belly.
Photos and videos of the bull quickly went viral on social media, with many Kenyans expressing mixed reactions. Some praised the senator for his generosity and symbolic gesture of respect toward the late Raila Odinga, while others criticized the act as “attention-seeking” and “disrespectful” during a solemn occasion.
Critics argued that branding his name on the animal made the donation appear more like a publicity stunt than a heartfelt contribution. Supporters, however, defended Ojienda, saying it was a cultural way of identifying gifts during community ceremonies, especially when several donors contribute livestock.
The bull has since been delivered to Opoda Farm, where preparations for the burial are ongoing, but the painted name continues to spark heated conversations both online and offline.
