Renowned political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has reignited debate in Kenya's political circles after issuing a powerful message to the Mt. Kenya region while predicting who could become the country's next President.
Ngunyi, renowned for his bold and often controversial political forecasts, warned the region that its dominance in the national political landscape was shifting, with the emergence of new power centers.
According to Ngunyi, Kenya's political landscape is gradually shifting away from its traditional ethnic kingpins towards allowing national appeal rather than regional backing.
He noted that the Mt Kenya region, which has produced several presidents and remains a voter-rich bloc, must prepare for a future where power may shift elsewhere if they fail to unite behind a clear political strategy.
Ngunyi went ahead to suggest that the next President may come from a community that Kenyans had overlooked, citing the influence of frontier regions and communities which have shown great organization, resilience, and national presence.
Without mentioning any particular individual, he insinuated that up-and-coming leaders among the pastoralist communities especially the Somali nation are increasingly poised strategically in the country's political fabric.
He added that Kenyan politics is increasingly becoming dynamic, and the electorate is gradually embracing leaders on the basis of competence, economic vision, and national cohesion, rather than ethnic allegiance.
Ngunyi warned that should Mt Kenya not realign, regions that have long been on the periphery could take center stage in the 2027 or 2032 elections.
