Details Emerge on How Much Morocco Is Using To Build A Stadium Bigger Than Talanta Stadium

Fresh details comparing Kenya’s Talanta Stadium project and Morocco’s new mega stadium have sparked outrage among Kenyans, with many questioning the value for money in the country’s multi-billion shilling infrastructure projects.

Morocco is currently constructing what will become the largest stadium in the world, boasting a seating capacity of 115,000. Beyond the stadium itself, the project includes a fully integrated mini-city, complete with supporting infrastructure such as transport networks, commercial zones, hospitality facilities, and public amenities. Remarkably, the entire project is estimated to cost about $500 million (approximately Ksh. 65 billion).

In contrast, Kenya is building the Talanta Stadium, a project projected to cost around Ksh. 45 billion, yet it will only have a 60,000-seat capacity, roughly the size of the existing Kasarani Stadium. Even more concerning to critics is the fact that the Talanta Stadium reportedly lacks major supporting infrastructure such as integrated transport systems, commercial developments, or surrounding urban upgrades.

The stark comparison has ignited public debate, with many Kenyans asking how a country can spend nearly the same amount of money on half the seating capacity, without additional facilities, while another nation delivers a far larger and more comprehensive project for only slightly more.

Analysts and citizens alike argue that the issue is not the need for modern stadiums, but how public funds are being utilized. The Morocco example has become a reference point in discussions about transparency, efficiency, and accountability in Kenya’s public procurement and construction processes.

The comparison has fueled claims that inflated costs, wastage, and possible corruption are making it increasingly difficult for Kenya to achieve meaningful development despite heavy public spending.

As pressure mounts, many Kenyans are now calling on the government to publicly explain the cost breakdown of the Talanta Stadium project and justify why a smaller, less integrated facility is consuming such a massive budget. For critics, the Morocco stadium has become more than just a sports project, it is a mirror reflecting deeper concerns about governance and the sustainability of Kenya’s development path.
