Jubilee deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i has come out to strongly defend former President Uhuru Kenyatta following a wave of political attacks directed at the retired head of state.
Speaking alongside Jubilee Party officials, Matiang’i warned political leaders to stop dragging Uhuru Kenyatta into ongoing party wrangles and succession battles, saying the former president has earned his place in history and deserves respect.
Matiang’i stated that Uhuru is no longer an active partisan politician and should not be used as a scapegoat for current political failures or internal disagreements within rival camps. He noted that constant attacks on Uhuru are unnecessary and only serve to inflame political tensions rather than address the real issues affecting Kenyans.
The former Interior CS emphasized that Jubilee will not sit back and watch its party leader be disrespected or unfairly targeted. He added that if leaders have political disagreements, they should resolve them openly and honestly without dragging Uhuru into battles he has chosen to stay away from.
Jubilee officials echoed Matiang’i’s sentiments, calling for decency and restraint in national politics. They argued that former presidents should be accorded dignity, regardless of current political alignments, warning that normalizing attacks on retired leaders sets a dangerous precedent.
Matiang’i also reminded critics that Uhuru’s legacy includes maintaining stability during sensitive political transitions and supporting constitutional order, adding that history will judge leaders based on their actions, not their rhetoric.
The remarks come amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Uhuru’s perceived influence continuing to attract both criticism and praise despite his low-profile approach.
