President William Ruto has reshuffled his political strategy in the Mt Kenya region, assembling a new and carefully selected team of allies to shore up his support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The move comes as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua continues to intensify his attacks against the Kenya Kwanza government in a region that carries enormous electoral weight.
At the heart of this new campaign structure are three key figures who have been handed the responsibility of winning back Mt Kenya hearts and minds.
The first is Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who has emerged as the principal architect of Ruto's Mt Kenya campaign. Kindiki is now leading what insiders describe as the President's campaign team in the region, blending political mobilization with a government development message designed to restore public confidence.
In recent public meetings, Ruto has openly praised his deputy and asked residents to affirm their support for him, fueling speculation that Kindiki could be his running mate in 2027.
Kindiki has also been telling crowds that supporting Ruto's second term in 2027 will position Mt Kenya for the presidency in 2032.
The second is Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, a well known and influential figure in the region whose grassroots networks and name recognition make her a valuable asset in the campaign structure.
The third is National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, whose political sharpness and visibility in national conversations make him a key voice for the Ruto camp within the region.
Other notable figures supporting the effort include Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri, UDA board chair Anthony Mwaura, and several Cabinet Secretaries and Senators drawn from across the Mt Kenya counties.
