What Uhuru Told Eugene Wamalwa After His Fallout With Ruto

Eugene Wamalwa has dropped a bombshell, claiming that former President Uhuru Kenyatta once confided in him that he wished he had picked him as his Deputy President instead of William Ruto.

According to Wamalwa, these were not casual remarks. They were said over uji, the kind of honest, unguarded conversations that happen away from the cameras and the public eye.

Wamalwa allges Uhuru told him that had he selected him he would not have endured all the stress he faced while working with Ruto.

It is a striking claim. Uhuru and Ruto's fallout became one of the most defining political stories in Kenya's recent history. What started as a powerful alliance ended in open hostility, with the two men spending the final stretch of Uhuru's presidency barely concealing their contempt for each other.

Wamalwa's account suggests that behind closed doors, Uhuru was carrying the weight of that broken relationship heavily and looking back at choices he could have made differently.

Whether Uhuru actually said those words or whether Wamalwa is adding his own color to private conversations is something only the former President can confirm. Uhuru has so far not responded to the remarks.

But the timing of Wamalwa's comments is interesting. With 2027 approaching and political alliances being formed and broken daily, reminding the public of Ruto's troubled history with his own former boss is not an accident.
