Bungoma Woman Left Homeless On Her Husband's Burial, Check What Happened

Shock and sorrow gripped Bungoma County after a widow was rendered homeless during the burial of her husband in what locals described as a cultural ritual gone too far.

The incident occurred when mourners stormed the woman’s compound shortly after the burial, accusing her of being linked to the man’s death.

In a disturbing video shared online, youths were seen throwing her out of the house before setting her property on fire. Chairs, household items, and eventually the entire house were reduced to ashes, leaving the grieving widow stranded with nothing.

The act, identified as Okhusoola, a traditional Bukusu ritual was reportedly performed to cleanse the spirit of the deceased. Locals believe the rite is carried out when foul play is suspected in someone’s death, with the aim of restoring peace between the dead and the living.

By the end of the ritual, the woman was permanently banished from her homestead, and her land is expected to be claimed by relatives. Residents expressed mixed reactions, with some condemning the practice as “primitive and backward,” while others defended it as part of long held cultural beliefs.

The shocking turn of events has reignited debate on the clash between cultural traditions and human rights, especially the vulnerability of widows in rural communities.
