Daytime 'Shock' After A Ugandan Maid Killed Her Boss And Buried Her In A Shallow Grave In Siaya

Shock and disbelief have engulfed Umrembo village in North Ugenya, Siaya County, after a trusted domestic worker allegedly killed her employer and buried her in a shallow grave within the homestead.

According to neighbours, the househelp identified as a Ugandan national turned against her employer in circumstances that remain unclear. After committing the act, she is said to have hurriedly buried the elderly woman in her compound before fleeing.

Neighbour Joyce Lugaye, who was among the first to witness the scene, recounted the chilling events.

“Nimekuwa huko nikawitness, eiiih. The husband of the deceased lives in Nairobi,” she said, still in shock over the betrayal.

For the close-knit village, where everyone knows each other, the crime has left families gripped with fear and unease. The homestead, once a place of safety, has now turned into a crime scene.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect, whose whereabouts remain unknown. Villagers expressed concern that she could still be hiding nearby, heightening tension in the community.

Residents condemned the act as “heartless” and “unthinkable.” Many admitted the case has made them more suspicious of domestic workers, though they also acknowledged that most are honest and hardworking.

Others advised families to employ relatives to care for elderly parents instead of strangers. Some noted a worrying trend of violent incidents involving domestic workers, recalling similar cases in Nakuru and Kisii.
