Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has suffered a major blow after the High Court dismissed his bid to overturn his 12-year jail sentence.
In a ruling delivered by Lady Justice Lucy Njuguna, the court rejected an application filed on August 28, in which Waititu sought a review of his sentence. The former county boss had argued that his conviction was unfair and should be set aside.
Waititu was convicted in February 2025 for irregularly receiving Ksh 25 million from a flawed tender during his tenure as governor. In addition to the prison term, he was ordered to pay a Ksh 53.5 million fine and barred from holding public office for 10 years.
His wife, Susan Wangare, was also convicted in the graft case and fined Ksh 500,000 or serve a one-year jail term.
The dismissal of Waititu’s application marks a significant win for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who has maintained that the case was airtight and the sentence justified.
The ruling underscores the judiciary’s tough stance on corruption cases involving high-profile individuals.
