The Plane President Ruto Used To Fly To The US

President William Ruto and First Lady Racheal Ruto on Sunday landed in New York City ahead of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The Head of State, who is scheduled to address the high-level meeting, made his entry aboard the national carrier, Kenya Airways, in a move that has drawn widespread attention.

Traditionally, Kenyan presidents have used the official presidential jet, famously known as Harambee One. The aircraft, a Fokker 70, has been in service for years and is specifically fitted for presidential use, offering both security and convenience during foreign trips.

Previous administrations, including those of the late President Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta, frequently relied on the jet for international and regional engagements.

However, President Ruto’s decision to use Kenya Airways instead of Harambee One has been described as both symbolic and pragmatic.

It projects patriotism by supporting the national airline while also signaling frugality in government spending.

Landing at JFK International Airport aboard KQ has sparked conversations on leadership style, with many Kenyans interpreting it as a gesture of humility and a commitment to showcasing national pride at the global stage.
