What Wahome Thuku Said After Mt Kenya MPs Attacked Mutahi Kahiga For His Remarks

Lawyer and political analyst Wahome Thuku has reacted to the sudden uproar among Mt. Kenya MPs following Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s controversial remarks about the late Raila Odinga.

According to Wahome, the lawmakers’ rush to distance themselves from Kahiga’s statement is both unnecessary and hypocritical.

In his post, Wahome questioned why the MPs were “in a stampede” to dissociate themselves from the governor’s words, noting that no one had asked them to associate with them in the first place.

He went on to challenge their selective outrage, asking why the same leaders have not distanced themselves from the controversial Bills they recently passed (laws that President William Ruto signed almost immediately after Raila’s death).

Wahome’s comments, laced with his characteristic sarcasm, struck a chord online as he urged Mt. Kenya leaders to show consistency in their political stands instead of engaging in reactionary politics.

He ended his statement with a Kikuyu phrase, “Nîmatûtigithie” — meaning “Let them leave us alone” a subtle expression of frustration at what he perceives as insincere political posturing.

His statement has since sparked mixed reactions, with many Kenyans agreeing that Wahome had voiced what many were thinking about the region’s political double standards.
