The government has set aside Sh1.6 billion to upgrade State House Road in Nairobi, according to a newly released tender notice outlining planned national road works.
The proposed upgrade is aimed at improving traffic flow along one of the capital’s most sensitive and heavily monitored routes, which links key government installations and residential areas.
Details contained in the tender documents show that the project is part of a wider road maintenance and improvement programme being rolled out across the country. In total, 92 road projects have been listed under the programme.
The combined budget for all the listed road works stands at Sh15.6 billion, indicating a major investment in infrastructure maintenance and upgrades during the current financial cycle.
State House Road is considered a strategic corridor due to its proximity to the official residence of the President and other high-security facilities. Any work along the route is usually subject to strict planning and security considerations.
Transport and infrastructure officials believe the upgrade will help ease congestion, especially during peak hours when movement in the area is often restricted or slowed down by security protocols.
The tender notice does not provide a specific timeline for when construction will begin or how long the project will take to complete.
Once completed, the upgrade is expected to enhance road quality, safety and efficiency along the corridor, while aligning with broader efforts to modernise key urban roads in Nairobi.
