Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has appointed Maurice Ogeta as Advisor on Security Affairs in the Mombasa County Government. Ogeta previously served as the late Raila Odinga’s long-time personal bodyguard, a role that placed him close to high level political and security operations for many years.
According to officials familiar with the appointment, the decision was made as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security coordination within the county administration. The appointment takes effect immediately and places Ogeta within the governor’s advisory team on matters related to safety and public order.
County sources say Ogeta brings extensive experience from his years of service in close protection and intelligence related duties. His background includes managing security for high profile events and coordinating with national security agencies during sensitive political periods.
The appointment has attracted attention due to Ogeta’s close association with Raila Odinga, who maintained a strong political presence in the country for decades. His role as a trusted bodyguard made him a familiar figure within ODM circles and among senior leaders allied to the former prime minister.
Officials at the county headquarters indicated that the new advisor will focus on strengthening collaboration between county enforcement units and national security organs. The role also involves advising on risk assessment, emergency response planning, and protection of critical county installations.
