Edwin Sifuna’s Critics Left Embarrassed After Oburu Odinga Said This About Him

Criticism directed at ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna appears to have hit a brick wall after Senator Oburu Odinga came out strongly in his defence, sending a clear message to both party insiders and the wider public.

In a statement shared after a meeting with the Nairobi Senator, Oburu Odinga described Sifuna as a sober and principled voice who embodies the democratic ideals of the Orange Democratic Movement. Oburu, who is Raila Odinga’s elder brother and a key figure within ODM, emphasized that internal debate should never be confused with division.

“We are one. We are united as the ODM Party. As a leader, I believe we must encourage everyone to speak their mind. Differences of opinion do not mean division,” Oburu stated after the meeting.

The statement comes at a time when Sifuna has been under sustained attack from some quarters within ODM, with accusations that he has been fighting the party instead of supporting it.

There have even been whispers about possible attempts to remove him as Secretary General, claims that have fueled intense debate both online and within political circles.

Oburu’s intervention is now being viewed as a major boost for Sifuna, effectively shutting down speculation about his isolation within the party’s top leadership.

By publicly affirming Sifuna’s role and values, Oburu signaled that dissenting voices within ODM are not only tolerated but protected as part of the party’s democratic culture.

Political observers note that Oburu’s remarks also serve a broader purpose by calming tensions within ODM at a time when unity is increasingly important ahead of the 2027 General Election.

For Sifuna’s critics, the statement was a major setback. Coming from Oburu Odinga, a senior figure with deep influence in the party, the endorsement carries significant weight and suggests that any attempts to politically corner the ODM Secretary General may not succeed anytime soon.
