Senior lawyer Wahome Thuku has issued a warning to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, claiming that many politicians currently flocking around him are driven purely by personal ambition rather than loyalty.
According to the lawyer, a growing number of aspirants seeking tickets under the DCP Party are positioning themselves close to Gachagua for convenience. He argued that most of them are focused on securing nominations and not building a lasting political movement.
He claimed several aspirants have openly admitted that their interest lies in the ticket and not the person leading the party. The lawyer said such remarks have been made even in Gachagua’s presence, showing the extent of political opportunism.
The lawyer warned that excessive praise and public loyalty should not be mistaken for genuine commitment. He noted that many politicians are willing to say or do anything to appear loyal as long as it increases their chances of being favored during nominations.
Drawing comparisons to the 2022 elections, he said political history shows that such alliances rarely last beyond party primaries. He added that once nominations are concluded, many of the aspirants will quickly shift allegiance.
He described the situation as a temporary political marriage held together by convenience. According to him, the real test will come immediately after nominations when personal interests clash.
Wahome said he noticed these patterns early and believes Gachagua may be underestimating the scale of the problem. He warned that the fallout could weaken the party before the 2027 General Election.
He advised Gachagua to be cautious and distinguish between genuine allies and short-term political players. He said failure to do so could leave him isolated at a critical moment.
The remarks have sparked discussion within political circles, with some agreeing that loyalty in Kenyan politics is often tied to opportunity. Others argue that such dynamics are unavoidable in party politics.
As preparations for 2027 continue, the prediction adds to growing debate about who truly stands with Gachagua and who is simply passing through.
