Saboti MP Hon. Caleb Amisi has dropped a revelation that adds a new and significant dimension to the story of one of Kenya's most talked about political movements, claiming that he is the founder of Linda Mwananchi and that it was his idea from the very beginning.
Amisi revealed that he was the one who conceived and established the Linda Mwananchi platform, and that he personally approached the embattled ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and asked him to take the leadership of the team.
The disclosure reframes much of the public narrative around Linda Mwananchi, which has largely been associated with Sifuna's name and identity given his high visibility and outspoken nature. Sifuna has been the face of the movement, the voice at rallies, and the figure most Kenyans associate with the Linda Mwananchi brand.
But if Amisi's account is accurate, the movement's origins lie with him, and Sifuna's prominent role was by invitation rather than by founding.
Amisi's revelation also adds context to his own passionate involvement in the movement's activities and his fierce defence of its principles, including his vocal opposition to the ODM-UDA coalition talks and his sharp criticisms of those he believes have betrayed the opposition's mandate.
A founder who handed leadership to someone else but remained deeply invested in the movement's direction and values is a very different figure from simply a supporter or a member.
The disclosure is likely to spark fresh conversation about the internal dynamics of Linda Mwananchi, the relationship between Amisi and Sifuna, and what this means for the movement's direction as it heads into one of the most consequential political seasons in Kenya's recent history.
