Businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi has thrown his hat into the 2027 presidential conversation, declaring himself the best candidate to take on President William Ruto and send him home after a single term.
Wanjigi did not mince his words or leave room for interpretation. He said plainly that he is ready, that he is the strongest option available, and that he has what it takes to end Ruto's stay at State House.
It was a statement dripping with confidence, the kind that either signals a serious political campaign in the making or a bid to stay relevant in an increasingly crowded opposition space.
His entry into the conversation comes at a time when the opposition lane is getting busier by the day. Rigathi Gachagua has been hinting at a run, Siaya Governor James Orengo has formally announced his presidential ambitions, Fred Matiang'i is sending signals, and Edwin Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi movement is building national momentum.
Wanjigi has run for president before and understands the terrain. He has resources, he has name recognition, and he has a history of being willing to go against powerful political establishments. Whether that translates into a viable candidacy in 2027 is a different question entirely.
What his declaration does, however, is add another voice to the growing chorus of politicians convinced that Ruto is beatable. The opposition is not short of candidates or ambition. What remains to be seen is whether any of them can unite behind a single vision or whether the field stays crowded long enough to hand Ruto another term by default.
