Robert Alai Alleges Why Governor Nyong’o Is Overrated

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has sparked debate after branding Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o as one of the most overrated county bosses in Kenya.

Alai, known for his candid political commentary, dismissed Nyong’o’s record, arguing that the governor has failed to deliver meaningful development in Kisumu despite the hype around his leadership.

According to Alai, Nyong’o’s most notable political achievement remains unseating former governor Jack Ranguma, but beyond that, he claims the governor has done little to transform the lives of ordinary residents.

He further accused Nyong’o of being out of touch with the poor, noting that critical issues affecting locals remain unresolved while the county continues to allocate minimal resources toward actual development.

Alai also took a swipe at the widespread praise of Kisumu’s cleanliness, challenging those who claim Nyong’o deserves credit for it. “Visitors to Kisumu say the city is clean. Please tell me when Kisumu was ever dirty. Tell me,” he wrote, implying that the city’s appearance is not necessarily a result of the governor’s leadership.

The vocal MCA concluded with a sarcastic remark in Dholuo: “awacho ayueyo” (I have spoken what I know), leaving no doubt about his stance.

His comments have stirred conversation online, with supporters and critics of Governor Nyong’o clashing over his performance, especially as Kisumu prepares to evaluate his legacy.
