Amount of Money IEBC Has Fined Kasipul Parliamentary Candidates After Chaos Erupted at Their Rallies

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has taken swift action following violent clashes that broke out during the Kasipul parliamentary by-election campaigns.

Two key candidates Philip Aroko and Boyd Were have each been slapped with a KSh 1 million fine for allegedly violating campaign rules.

According to IEBC, the unrest was triggered when both candidates disregarded the harmonised campaign schedule, a mandatory guideline designed to prevent conflicts and ensure orderly political activities.

The commission noted that failure to adhere to the agreed timetable led to rival supporters confronting each other, resulting in chaotic scenes at the campaign venues.

IEBC has now issued a strict directive: Aroko and Were must pay the KSh 1 million fine within 48 hours. Failure to do so will lead to their immediate disqualification from the by-election.

The decision has attracted attention nationwide, with many Kenyans praising the commission for enforcing discipline, while others argue that IEBC should go further by holding supporters and political parties equally accountable.

As the by-election approaches, IEBC’s firm stance signals a renewed effort to maintain peaceful campaigns and deter candidates from engaging in activities that could incite violence.
