Fresh discussions have emerged within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after vocal party member George Aladwa publicly proposed that Winnie Odinga, the daughter of the late Raila Odinga, should be elevated to a top leadership position within the party.
According to Aladwa, Winnie should be appointed as the Deputy Party Leader, a move he believes would strengthen the continuity of ODM’s vision and maintain the legacy left by her father.
He argued that Winnie has demonstrated commitment, resilience and deep understanding of the party’s ideal qualities he says make her suitable for a senior leadership role.
The proposal comes at a time when ODM is reorganizing its internal structure, with Oburu Oginga, Raila Odinga’s elder brother, currently at the helm. Aladwa insists that Winnie’s inclusion in top leadership would energize the party base and inspire younger supporters who view her as a symbol of the next political generation.
While the idea has sparked both excitement and debate among Kenyans, it marks an important moment for ODM as it charts its future direction following Raila Odinga’s passing. Whether the party adopts Aladwa’s proposal remains to be seen, but the conversation has already ignited significant political interest nationwide.
