Saboti MP Caleb Amisi spoke his mind about the political signals sent by Thursday’s by-elections, saying the current government was headed for a major defeat in 2027.
According to Amisi, the results across several constituencies paint a worrying picture for President William Ruto and his key allies. He noted that the government's influence appears to be weakening significantly, and the numbers from the polls "do not lie."
Amisi wondered how the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula could lose in his own ward yet holding one of the most powerful political offices in the country. He also indicated that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was struggling to win for the government's favorite candidate, with only a slim margin separating the top contenders.
In Malava, where considerable resources were reportedly invested in the campaign, the UDA candidate barely scraped through with about 500 votes, an outcome Amisi described as embarrassing for a ruling party in a supposed stronghold. He further added that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s political influence seems to be fading rapidly and referred to him as “a spent force.”
Amisi concluded from such patterns that there is a strong swing on the ground, warning that the government is headed to being a one term which became popular, signaling overwhelming rejection by an even bigger margin than he had previously predicted.
