Wahome Thuku Predicts What Will Happen If Matiangi Is Not The Opposition’s Presidential Candidate

Lawyer and political commentator Wahome Thuku has made a bold prediction in respect to the 2027 presidential race: the future of opposition, according to him, will depend upon only one thing, whether Dr. Fred Matiang’i emerges as the single opposition presidential candidate or not.

According to Thuku, the landscape is already clear: if the opposition fails to unite behind a single strong contender, President William Ruto’s second term is almost unchallenged.

He emphasized that this is not a matter for debate but a political reality that Kenyans should prepare for.

Thuku said that Matiang'i is the only candidate who possesses the national appeal, experience, discipline and credibility to take on Ruto head-on.

Dividing votes among multiple candidates, he warned, would weaken the opposition and make the election easy to win for the incumbent.

His comments have elicited online debate, where Kenyans are discussing whether or not the opposition can rally behind one flag bearer and if Matiang’i is indeed the strongest option forward.
