The family of the late Beryl Lilian Achieng Odinga, the younger sister to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has finally confirmed her burial site following a private family meeting held shortly after her death on November 25.
Sources close to the Odinga family indicate that the closed door meeting brought together senior members of the family, who unanimously agreed that Beryl will be laid to rest at Kang'o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.
Kang'o Ka Jaramogi serves as the ancestral home of the Odinga family, while it is also the burial site of notables such as the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
The burial of Beryl in that place is viewed as a symbol of honour and continuity of the lineage. Relatives who were present referred to her as a humble and highly valued member of the Odinga household.
The agreement ends speculation by members of the public on where she would be buried, as some had been anticipating her body could be taken to another location. The family is expected to issue a comprehensive funeral program in the coming days.
Messages of condolence from leaders across the political divide have continued coming, praising Beryl for her warmth and strength towards community and family. Her burial at Kang'o Ka Jaramogi is set to attract a huge number of mourners, given the prominence of the Odinga family in national affairs.
