Political commentator Wahome Thuku has claimed that the lingering anger within the Orange Democratic Movement toward former President Uhuru Kenyatta is rooted in the outcome of the 2022 General Election.
According to Thuku, President William Ruto defeated Raila Odinga decisively, leaving no room for political maneuvering to alter the final result. He argues that the margin was clear enough that even extraordinary interventions would not have changed the outcome.
Thuku alleges that ODM’s frustration is not about the loss itself, but about Uhuru’s refusal to engage in illegal actions to rig votes after the election. He claims party insiders expected the former president to interfere with the process in Raila’s favour, something Uhuru did not do.
In his remarks, Thuku insists that Uhuru chose to walk away rather than compromise the law, even when pressure mounted from allies who felt politically exposed after the defeat. He says this decision is what continues to strain relations between ODM and the former president.
The commentator further claims that ODM’s anger has persisted for nearly three years because members believe Uhuru abandoned Raila at a critical moment. Thuku frames this belief as unrealistic, arguing that Raila had already been knocked out by the numbers.
He maintains that no amount of post-election influence could have overturned the verdict delivered by voters at the ballot. In his view, blaming Uhuru has become a way for ODM to avoid confronting deeper weaknesses within the party.
Thuku’s remarks have stirred debate online, with supporters agreeing that the 2022 result was decisive, while critics accuse him of oversimplifying a complex political fallout.
