Usituletee Upuzi Wako Hapa – Beatrice Elachi Lectures Gachagua

Nairobi Woman Representative Beatrice Elachi has taken a swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying he should not bring what she termed as "village-style politics" into the capital city. Her remarks came after Gachagua made statements that Elachi believes were divisive, backward, and unfit for a cosmopolitan city like Nairobi.

Elachi faulted Gachagua for attempting to introduce the politics of exclusion and tribal profiling, maintaining that Nairobi has a very different social fabric. She said that the city is built on unity, coexistence, and mutual support among people from all corners of the country, regardless of tribe or background.

According to her, Nairobians have learned to live, work, and help one another without asking where anybody comes from. Because of this, Elachi reasoned that anything that tries to make the city a ground for tribal politics or intimidation must be rejected firmly.

She added that Nairobi’s diversity is its strength, and that leaders should nurture it, rather than fuel divisions. Elachi made it clear that the approach of the former Deputy President might work elsewhere, but it has no room in the capital, which she termed as "everyone's home."

Her sentiments have stirred debate online, with many Kenyans echoing her message while others accused her of targeting the Gachagua unfairly. Regardless, the exchange adds to the growing political tension as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
