Wahome Thuku has shut down the speculation and narrowed Kenya's 2027 presidential race to three names, telling anyone still entertaining other possibilities to abandon that line of thinking entirely.
The senior lawyer and political commentator made the declaration after someone told him they were struggling to understand his political positions. Thuku was unbothered.
He told the person plainly that understanding him would not bring down the price of fuel, and that their energy would be far better spent thinking about who actually has the power to reduce the cost of living.
"The next President in 2027 will be Dr. Fred Matiang'i, or Kalonzo Musyoka, or William Samoei Ruto. List closed," he wrote, leaving no room for debate or additions.
Thuku then broke it down along political lines for those still finding their footing. For those in the Tutam camp, meaning those who support the current administration, there is only one name worth thinking about and that is Ruto. For those in the WanTam camp, those pushing for change, the options are Matiang'i and Kalonzo. No one else makes the cut.
But for WanTam supporters who are serious about genuine transformation, Thuku was even more pointed. He said the choice narrows to one man, Fred Matiang'i, and he made no attempt to soften that opinion.
Thuku has been consistent about his support for the former Interior CS, repeatedly describing him as the only candidate capable of addressing the economic pain ordinary Kenyans are living through.
Whether the political landscape in 2027 ends up matching his prediction remains to be seen, but Thuku has clearly made his peace with where he stands.
