The viewing was initially scheduled to take place at Parliament Buildings, but due to the overwhelming turnout of mourners, the event was moved to the larger Kasarani venue. Thousands of Kenyans followed the convoy on foot all the way to the stadium.
However, during the viewing, one detail caught the attention of many and caused confusion among mourners. People noticed that the casket containing Raila’s body was different from the one seen earlier in India.
This led to speculation about when and where the switch happened, since the body had not been taken to the Lee Funeral Home as previously announced.
Some claimed the casket was changed at the Kasarani VVIP lounge, where his family selected the final one, while others believed the change occurred aboard the flight.
It was later clarified that the first casket had been temporarily provided by Indian authorities for the repatriation process.
