After a private meeting between elders and his elder brother, Dr. Oburu Odinga, it was agreed that Raila would instead be laid to rest beside his late father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President.
According to those present, the decision was made to honor the family legacy and to allow the construction of a mausoleum similar to the one that houses his father’s remains.
Elders explained that burying Raila next to Jaramogi would symbolize continuity of leadership and heritage, keeping the family’s lineage united in one place.
The move has sparked mixed reactions, with some saying the family made the right decision to preserve history, while others feel his personal wishes should have been honored.
