A Kakamega family has been thrown into grief following a bad road accident that claimed the lives of its nine sisters while on their way to attend their grandmother's burial.
The young women, described as industrious and very promising, were all still studying and had reportedly planned to build their father a new home once they finished school. They had vowed to support him later in life and uplift their family, dreams painfully cut short.
The Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera visited the grieving family after the tragedy to condole with the family and delivered a KSh 1 million donation from President William Ruto to help in burial arrangements and immediate needs. The MP said the incident was one of the most heartbreaking losses the region had witnessed in years.
Nabwera also reiterated calls for the urgent expansion of the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway, which has been rendered increasingly dangerous by growing traffic and frequent accidents. He called on the national government to expedite the project as a way of ensuring that such tragedies do not recur.
In the meantime, several of the survivors of the accident remain hospitalized as doctors continue to stabilize them. The devastated family is preparing to lay the nine sisters to rest, not only mourning their sudden deaths but also the futures they never had the chance to fulfill.
