Cherargei Attacks Kalonzo As He Alleges The Only Achievement He Has Made Since He Joined Politics

A stinging political row has reopened the debate about Kalonzo Musyoka’s legacy following an attack by Senator Samson Cherargei, associated with the UDA party, on the Wiper Party boss over his development record.

This followed remarks associated with Kalonzo's name in which the veteran politician conceded that he had not constructed a single kilometre of the Kibwezi road.

On the matter, the senator mocked Kalonzo's confession by thanking him for finally “stating the obvious,” but then proceeded to launch an attack on the only visible accomplishment Kalonzo had since he joined national politics.

Cherargei says that Kalonzo should take pride in the construction of a prison that took place in Makueni County, because, as he says, this is the only visible project that Kalonzo has accomplished throughout his political career.

This remark by the senator can be referred to as a form of honesty, since Kalonzo has spent most of his life in government, yet he has managed to achieve little.

His words have also elicited responses from across the political divides, with the opposition seeing the utterances by Cherargei as part of the tactics being employed by the allies of the present regime to undermine the opponents before the general election in the 2027.

On the other hand, Kalonzo's supporters claim that his achievements in matters of national stability, diplomacy, and constitutional reforms cannot be captured by the construction of roads.

The exchange highlights increasing reliance on debates revolving around more visible infrastructure projects, which would define a successful leader, while less critical aspects in policies would not count, or at least not matter as much.

As the 2027 presidential election slowly takes shape, more of these attacks can be expected, especially performance narratives from opposing camps.
