Wahome Thuku Reveals How a Gachagua Video Clip Left Him Embarrassed While In Court

Lawyer and political commentator Wahome Thuku has narrated a hilarious yet embarrassing moment that he experienced at the Kiambu Law Courts on Tuesday.

Thuku, who had already settled quietly in a fully packed courtroom waiting for his matter to be called out, decided to pass time online only for Facebook to humiliate him in front of everyone.

According to him, he opened his Facebook app at the time the courtroom was observing absolute silence. His phone had already been put on silent mode, but Thuku joked that Facebook does not respect phone settings.

Just as he scrolled through his feed, a video of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua suddenly autoplayed at full blast.

The clip, which began with the unmistakable voice of Gachagua loudly declaring, “Mnajua hii mzee ya kitendawili…” instantly became a political catchphrase that drew eyes to Thuku’s direction.

Caught by surprise, he panicked trying to quickly lower the volume, mute the device or shut the app. The sudden outburst pierced the silence of the courtroom and left him visibly embarrassed as other attendees turned around toward his direction.

Thuku's light-hearted confession ignited laughter on social media as many Kenyans recounted similar moments when Facebook content "betrayed" them in public places.
