Junet Mohamed Alleges The Powerful Person Who Wants ODM To Fall

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has stirred fresh debate within Kenya’s political circles after alleging that a powerful figure is partly responsible for the growing disorganisation within the Orange Democratic Movement.

Speaking candidly, Junet claimed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta may have played a role in the confusion currently being witnessed inside ODM, particularly over the party’s political direction following the formation of the broad based government.

According to Junet, some ODM leaders including himself believe that Uhuru wanted the party to remain firmly within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, even as political alignments changed after the 2022 General Election.

He explained that Uhuru allegedly wanted ODM to head into the next general election while still in Azimio.

Junet suggested that this push to freeze ODM within Azimio has affected internal decision making, created uncertainty among party members, and fueled divisions over whether ODM should reposition itself politically ahead of 2027.

The remarks come at a time when ODM is facing internal tensions, including debates over party leadership, strategy, and its relationship with the Kenya Kwanza administration. Some members support cooperation with the government for stability and influence, while others insist the party should remain firmly in opposition.
