Shock and grief have engulfed Elburgon in Njoro, Nakuru County, after 72-year-old businessman Pius Machogu and his wife Jerusha Kwamboka (70) were brutally murdered by their newly employed farmhand, Sisa Juma Wanyama.
According to Molo Sub-County Police Commander Timon Odingo, the farmhand confessed to killing the couple and dumping their bodies in a borehole within their compound. He had been employed only two months prior.
Investigations revealed that the killings occurred after Machogu confronted the farmhand about the sudden disappearance of the family’s house girl, Maureen, who had gone missing days earlier. Their son, Chris Ayienda, said the confrontation angered Wanyama, who then struck his father with an axe before killing both parents.
The alarm was raised by villagers after the couple, known as active church members, went missing and failed to answer calls. When the community stormed their compound, the farmhand was present, but the couple was nowhere to be seen. Their bodies were later retrieved from the borehole.
Police have launched further investigations and are searching for the missing house girl, with fears that she may also have been killed.
