Senior Lawyer Alleges Why Gachagua May Not Help Kalonzo Win in 2027

Lawyer Wahome Thuku has warned Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka against over-relying on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the 2027 presidential contest.

According to the lawyer, Gachagua’s political influence though considerable in some areas is too narrow to propel Kalonzo to a national victory.

The lawyer said that whereas Gachagua may excite Kalonzo in the Mt. Kenya region, his appeal does not stretch further than that. He noted that Gachagua is able to attract crowds and influence local politics because of his grassroots image and strong regional networks; however, this influence weakens a lot outside central Kenya.

Reliance upon him, therefore, as one of the primary campaign pillars may leave Kalonzo exposed in key battleground counties.

He explained further that this will even be a double-edged sword in Ukambani, where Gachagua's involvement means he dominates the headline news whenever he shows up at political functions.

The lawyer insisted at a national level that Gachagua lacks the broad appeal that would help unite divided voting blocs up from the coast to western Kenya.

He urged Kalonzo to firm up his personal campaign machinery, create alliances across communities, and craft a message resonating particularly with Gen Z and the middle class, who are increasingly crucial in determining election outcomes.

The lawyer concluded that, although Gachagua may offer some regional advantage, he is unlikely to help Kalonzo win the presidency unless Kalonzo builds an independent, widely accepted national movement ahead of 2027.
